Who is Monde Henama?
I was born and raised in Motherwell. This township is one of the biggest in the Port Elizabeth maybe in the whole Eastern Cape. Many of its inhabitants are plagued with unemployment, even the ones that are working are in the low income bracket and the crime rate is very high.
I have often asked myself what is that one thing that can change my community and when I actually thought about it I realize that what can change a community or even the whole world is Hope which can only be found in Christ. People have put all their hopes in the Government, hoping that if we put this organization in power things would change if we remove this person the next one will make our lives better but nothing changes. The only one everyone should put their hope is Christ Jesus who laid his life down for us. In Him there is Hope there is Peace and there is Contentment no matter what your problems are or your social status.
I am also one of the Motherwell youth who is unemployed, I was also hopeless thinking that I am not worthy and I did not even see the reason why I was brought into this earth. I felt like a failure because everything endeavour I was attempting failed. My life only change when I received Christ as my Lord and Savior. Since then everything changed for me changed. I started to look at myself differently and I found out that even though I am not working I can be able to make a difference in someone else’s life. I began to volunteer at Love Life Trust where I was working as a facilitator going to schools teaching the youth about HIV/AIDS and how to change their lifestyle.
We were teaching them in recognizing their talents and to know that to God they are valuable and there is a purpose that they were brought into this earth.
When you have found Christ in your life you find your identity. You find your purpose to be brought into this earth.
We also started Students Christian Organizations (SCO) in order to communicate the message of Christ in schools and I could see the difference. Some youth began to see themselves in a different light. We also initiated a club which was called Poetry Expression where the youth was telling their stories through poetry. This gave them an outlet to express themselves and this gave some of them to appear on Bay TV which is another avenue to showcase their talents and grow them.
Seeing the youth of my community changing for the better gave me so much joy. We have also formed a group in my local church where we go to homes of the youth that we seem to be struggling. We go and pray for the whole family and if there is any assistance we can offer we do. We have recently painted a home for another youth where there parents were not working and we managed to leave some groceries as well.
I really enjoy seeing someone life changing for the better and that person having renewed hope that is found only in Christ and in recognizing that you are worthy and that even though you may not have money but you can still be able to contribute meaningfully in the community you are staying in.
To the youth of Motherwell I just want to say. You are born into the image of Christ and you are unique don’t try to be someone else. God has put some talents and gifts in you and if you seek Him you will find your identity. I am also pleading to the parents to lead an exemplary life because some of the problems that are being experienced by the today’s youth are caused by not receiving good and firm foundations from their parents.
I would also urge our youth to volunteer in organizations such as Love Life, Grass Roots, Poetry Expressions and others that are similar to them because they do make a difference in someone’s life and I am a witness.
To God be the glory
