Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs interact with living organisms to produce a change in function.

Pharmacology includes:

• Drug composition and properties
• Drug interactions
• Toxicology (the study of the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms)
• Drug therapy and medical applications

Pharmacology deals with how drugs interact within biological systems to affect function, while pharmacy is a medical science concerned with the safe and effective use of medicines.

Pharmacology is not the same profession as pharmacy, although the two terms are sometimes confused.
