Design is undoubtedly one of the most important tools in the new economy, which is embedded in knowledge, creativity and innovation. These are key tools for competitiveness. Globalisation demands that for products to be competitive, they have to be both functional and well designed. As a country, to meet both local and international challenges, we need to produce products that will not only serve our needs, but will be competitive in the world market.
The graphic designer conveys a message through an appropriate visual medium, whether a printed document (packaging, advertisements, books, magazines and posters) or on film, video or computer (illustrations, animation and typography). He or she should be able to conceptualise and generate ideas, and understand and apply specialised software.
