A career in Sport, Recreation and Fitness
South Africans take their sport very seriously and, while the job market in the sports industry is fairly small compared to many other sectors (such as finance or healthcare), it is a vibrant and exciting field in which to work.
Jobs within the sports sector can be broken down into three main categories:
- sport activity
- production
- promotion
Professor Ernst Kruger, director of the Institute for Sports Research, and a Professor at department of Biokinetics, Sport and Leisure Studies at the University of Pretoria, points out that there are more and more performance centres springing up at universities around the country, both in the private and public spaces, resulting in new job opportunities being created.
