Candidates interested in pursuing any of the registered gaming qualifications should have a GET certificate or equivalent obtained at level 4. (Equivalent Matric certificate) Of specific importance are Mathematics and English at NQF level 1. (Grade 9) Note that many employers require the FETC - existing Matric/Grade 12 certificate - as a minimum employment requirement. Legal Requirements
All people working in the casino industry have to be licensed by the provincial Gaming Department of the province in which they work. The requirements and process for this licence vary from province to province, but the general conditions on which a license will be issued are the same. The process is called a “probity’ process, and the employer usually processes and forwards applications to the authority on behalf of the employee/trainee.

As gaming is an emerging industry in South Africa, there are currently only four registered qualifications available.
You have to be employed by a casino operator to be trained in any casino operations. There are no ‘gaming schools’ to which you can go for basic training, and then apply for employment at a casino. There are, however, qualifications against which various different operators will be trained.
