CP: What is your title?
LG: Animator.
CP: Where do you work?
LG: BlackGinger.
CP: What do you LOVE most about your job?
LG: The work I do for each individual job is never the same.
CP: Have you had any other jobs?
LG: No.
CP: When you were at school, what type of career did you think you would follow?
LG: At first I thought I would do backstage work for plays. That idea changed into helping behind the camera.
CP: Which qualification/s are needed for this career?
LG: Artistic background, knowledge of animation software, an ability to work with others.
CP: What made you decide to choose that study path?
LG: My class went to an open day at UCAA (now the animation school).
CP: How long did you study for, and do you still do any training?
LG: I studied for 2 years after high school. Every now and again I do video tutorials.
CP: Have you ever done any volunteer work to gain experience?
LG: No.
CP: What made you decide to choose the job that you are doing now?
LG: I wanted to get a job close to home in an office where i felt comfortable.
CP: Please tell about a typical day at work (including the main duties etc)
LG: Lailies - which is a crit session where we go over work from the previous day.
What follows is dependent on what each job requires.On any day I could do things like modeling 3D objects on the computer, preparing them for texturing, painting textures, hand tracking objects, lighting scenes or setting up renders. On some jobs I might do one of those things, on others I might do more.
On days when we have client approvals we'll get back a list of changes we have to make.
CP:What are the main tools that you use daily?
LG: Computer.
CP: Does your job involve managing other people?
LG: No.
CP: Do you work office hours or flexi-time?
LG: Office hours.
CP: Do you work in a relaxed or a formal environment?
LG: Relaxed.
CP: What is the dress code for your job?
LG: There isn't a specific dress code.
CP: What is the best thing that has ever happened to you at work?
LG: Seeing my work on tv for the first time!
CP: What are the prospects for career growth?
LG: Expanding my focus to different aspects of animations.
CP: Does your job include travelling?
LG: No.
CP: Describe the kind of person that you think most suits this type of work
LG: Creative, logical.
CP: Do you have any tips for people thinking about this career?
LG: Sometimes you have to put your own opinions aside because what matters at the end of the day is that the client likes the work you have produced.
CP: What other options/possibilities are there for career growth in this field?
LG: Changing to another field for animation, like going into games, websites, architectural fly-throughs etc.
