A few books to look out for:
Register as a work-seeker with your nearest Labour Centre of the Department of Labour. See the “How to Register as a Work-seeker” document on the Department of Labour website located at http://www.labour.gov.za/legislation/acts/how-tos/skill-development/how-to-register-as-a-work-seeker. Browse through the “career” or “situations vacant” section of local and national newspapers on a daily basis. Your local library should have copies of the local papers. Apply for all jobs which your experience and qualifications match. Register with employment or recruitment agencies. Use your local newspapers and Yellow Pages to help you develop a list of possible agencies in your area. Your local library should have a copy of the Yellow Pages. Also contact the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professionals to see if they can suggest some organisations to contact: http://www.sacnasp.org.za They may also be able to suggest trade journals for you to read. Make use of supplier and consultant databases to identify potential employers in your field. For example, http://www.geoafrica.co.za/services/index.htm Also contact Civil Engineering and Mining companies to find out who they consult for their geological surveys. You could also approach large companies like Petro SA to see if they have any vacant positions. Good luck with your job search from the Career Planet Team |

Dear Joel Thank you for your email. You are certainly a good friend. The best thing for your friend to do is to do up his CV. He should make sure to include any skills that he has for example good communication skills. The idea is for him to sell himself without exaggerating the truth. We suggest you show your friend out Career Planet website for tips on how to do his CV as well as how to prepare for an interview
The key is for your friend to get his CV out to as many shops as he can such as Edgars and Truworths. He does not have to wait for the stores to advertise showing a little bit of initiative can make a good impression. Word of mouth is another good form of networking. The more friends and family who spreads the word around, the better his chances.
A few tips to consider when doing his CV and writing his Letter of Motivation:
We wish your friend all the best. We would also like to stay in contact with you to see how you and your friend are progressing. However, if you do not want us to contact you please let us know. The Career Planet Team
