Dear Musa: This email contains additional information regarding the GCC which you enquired about. We hope this new information will be more helpful to you. At this stage you have a number of options to consider:
Part-time or correspondence study will allow you to work and study; therefore we suggest you contact TUT to see if their National Diploma in Civil Engineering is offered on a part time basis. Also explore UNISA as it is a distance learning institution; you can work while studying at your own pace. We suggest you contact both institutions directly for more information about study options and their admission requirements for a National Diploma and BTech degree:
As regards the General Certificate of Competence, we have been informed that FET Colleges registers students for the GCC examination with the Department of Labour; you therefore need to contact your FET College directly about age, experience and academic admission requirements. They will be able to advise you about what extra subjects you will need to take in order to qualify for the GCC. The following GCC's are offered:
Because your qualification is in civil engineering you are likely to require quite a few electrical , electronic and mechanical before you complete the courses as well as the GCC subjects for the area you want to enter (Factories or Mine and Works):
According to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), the following professional registration categories are available (http://www.ecsa.co.za/index.asp?x=procedure#prof cert eng):
We wish you all the best as you explore your options. We would like to stay in contact with you to see how you are progressing. However, if you prefer us not to contact you please let us know.
