Do you of any companies that offer bursaries for national diploma or BTech degree in analytical chemistry, offer it during the second semester because I know of many companies that do but only by the start of the academic year (January). Click here for Lynn's reply.
Kabelo Asks:
I have always believed that every career is rewarding provided that you have the right qualification and experience. But lately I have found myself entertaining negative comments from some of my university friends who we studied analytical chemistry together and we will be graduating for our national diploma next month. We are about to complete our in service training in industry and I was contemplating to go back to school and do a BTech degree in the same discipline. But they forever discourage me by saying analytical chemistry does not pay compare to engineering. Is that really true? And secondly which one of the three first graduate degrees weighs more weight: BTECH, BSC OR BENG. Thirdly is BTECH RATED on the same NQF level as BSC HONS chemistry and if it does, does it applies to other causes as well. Click here for Lynn's reply.

I am currently in the Marketing sector specializing in trade and in need of a boost. I have had done NDP (non diploma studies) within the marketing field. I have also done various other vocational courses. Now that I am able to pay for my own studies, I would like to choose wisely. I’m a 33 year old married women with children and I reside in Cape Town. The problem is … I have 3 ideas:
1: Do a Bcom in Marketing – 3 year, I will grow within this field and maybe prosper financially. This is the logical move and in the direction of work that I am. But is this direction the path that I would like to take … answer .. I don’t know!
2: Do a BA (HUS) General with a M’s in Anthropology and Psychology…. WOW! It scares and excites me. These subject matters interest me ‘big-time’.
This is not a logical move, it does not seem to yield any future benefits but it could as we are not sure what future ‘employment’ structures will look like.
3: OR a BA (LAL) … this would be a field have been for 10 years now .. I do enjoy writing and creative writing … it will pay the bills, but does it yield any benefits for my future. This is just an exciting and I can once again see myself doing this in a business … there are many other benefits of this degree.
I have an end in mind: Me(aged 60) and hubby sitting in a very modest house close to the beach … writing a novel or something. Click here for Lynn's reply.

I have completed my BCom Degree in 2002 majoring in Information Technology and Business Management, My Subjects included Accounting I, Statistics I, Economics I, English Business Communication I, Auditing II, Business Management I, II, III, Information Technology I, II, III. In 2004 I completed a IT Engineering Skills Development (Programming) Learnership with ISETT SETA. My subjects were Business Management, Word Processing and Windows, A+, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, Oracle & SQL Programming and Project Management. In 2004 I have looked for vacancies in IT and could not find any jobs, as I did not have the experience. I The college where I studied offered me a job in their finance department. I accepted and worked there for 4 years, here I worked with Petty Cash, Debtors, Creditors, Admin and my Directors Personal Assistant. During my stay there I embarked on studying part-time courses such as Pastel Accounting, Bookkeeping and Financial Accounting at Varsity College. I then looked for employment elsewhere; currently I am employed as an Accounting Clerk where my duties include Petty Cash and Debtors. My major duties include the Debtor Management, chasing, reconciliation, and following up on the debtors. My Concern with my career at the moment is that I am streamlining into one specific area of my career, which is the debtors, I don't enjoy what I am doing now as it is not challenging for me. I am in a position now to change my career to IT before my qualification becomes stagnant as I am already over qualified for the job that I am doing. The part that I enjoyed most during my studies was the Information Systems section. Is there an opportunity to develop into this career without experience in the field? Click here for Lynn's reply.

Please help me. I would like to become an accountant (auditor), but I have been discouraged by people and friends as I did not do maths in high school, only accounting. I was wondering if I can make this dream a reality – by getting either a bridge course – or choose an alternative career with an option of maths / accounting as additional subjects. Please help me – I am extremely passionate in numbers, and been told I am good at working with them. I am at present working as a Pastel Administrator (deal with journals) most of the time. Please tell me more about other exciting careers that I can do (with finance). I am over 23 years. Click here for Lynn's reply.
Estelle Asks:
My son passed matric in 2008, but not good enough to qualify for degree entrance. He applied to do a Diploma in mechanical engineering and was conditionally accepted. They look at their numbers and informed him that they only took the best and the best filled up their numbers (no space for him). He did extremely well throughout his schooling career, but experienced some personal hick-ups in grade 11 and 12. I know that the two grades are the most important and it can make you or brake you, should you want to study further. He has the potential to pass, if he can only be given a chance. What can I do to help my son? Click here for Lynn's reply.

I have been in the Child Care Sector for five year and worked as a pre-school teacher trying to help the community, one of my resent employments was at a children’s home were I worked with abused, homeless children. And when the facility closed many of these kids had to return to that circumstance or just placed some where until they could find a better home. I registered with Unisa to complete a law degree (LLB); I am going to do this part-time since I also have to work. I am looking for financial assistance or a learnership for my studies. I’m currently a UniSA student doing my BSc in Physics and Computer science. Even though I enjoy both Physics and Computer Science, my real passion lies with architecture. My original plan was to gain high enough marks to gain entry into Architecture at the University of Pretoria but in the meanwhile I have become self sustained with a job and so on which would be difficult if not impossible to keep if I move to become a full time student at UP. My question is, is there some way to study for a B Architecture or BSc Architecture degree through correspondence as with UniSA? Click here for Lynn's reply.
