Dear Leisle
Well done on completing the Lay Counselling course; while it hasn’t given you the opportunity to register, it has taught you many useful skills which will come in handy as you gain experience and knowledge in the field of counselling.
To be able to register as a Registered Counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) you will need an honours degree from a university followed by an internship ( http://www.hpcsa.co.za/board_psychology.php).
UNISA offers some good correspondence courses for B degrees and honours. To see if you qualify for admission, go to the UNISA website (http://www.unisa.ac.za). Click on "Prospective Students" and then select "Do I qualify to study through UNISA?" There are 10 different access routes depending on type of school qualification and age.
