Public Lecture by Professor Lee Berger
Date and time: Sat 18 February at 11:00am
Venue: The Whale Well, Iziko South African Museum, Cape Town
To launch the opening of the exhibition "Australopithecus sediba", Wits palaeoanthropologist Professor Lee Berger will give a public lecture at the Iziko South African Museum. This new species of great ape (family Hominidae) is described from fossils discovered by Berger and his son Matthewand will be on exhibition at the Iziko SA Museum. The fossils were located in nearly 2-million-year-old deposits at the “Cradle of Humankind” World Heritage Site in Gauteng. Berger will introduce the ancient hominids, thought to be a link between australopithecine fossils like “Mrs Ples”, and the most ancient representatives of the genus Homo to which we Homo sapiens now belong.
