Veterinary Technologist
Becoming a Veterinary Technologist requires working in a laboratory, as you willa be specifically trained to execute laboratory procedures, handle and inject animals and record observations.
They are expected to implement animal health schemes and to control disease in the field.
Their tasks can be divided into three main categories:
- diagnosis (collecting specimens of plants, feeds, blood and tissues from animal testing, to determine the causes of disease or death),
- research (carried out in disciplines such as virology, bacteriology, parasitology, toxicology, pathology and nutrition), and
- manufacture (production of veterinary substances, i.e. antigens and vaccines). They also assist veterinary surgeons and scientists.
