Agricultural machinery mechanics or tractor mechanics are required to maintain, repair and overhaul farm machinery, equipment and vehicles such as tractors, harvesters, pumps and tilling equipment. They examine and listen to machines, motors and engines for defects. They dismantle defective units and repair or replace parts, using various parts to ensure that they operate efficiently. They may install and repair farm irrigation systems and maintain farm electrical systems. Mechanics must be able to work with both petrol and diesel engines and may occasionally have to do welding.
