Spray Painters are responsible for respraying panel-beaten vehicles. They use spray guns (that work with compressed air) to spray paint onto the body of a vehicle to change its colour, or to repaint previously scratched or damaged paint work.
Spray painters prepare the body of vehicles for re-spraying by removing dirt and grease, smoothing panel-beaten parts and removing existing loose paint with sandpaper or paint-removing chemicals. Then they must choose the correct colour, mix the paint, spray the vehicle with the layers of colour. After spray painting the vehicle needs to be polished and buffed. The spray painting equipment and work area must be cleaned and kept free from dust.
A good spray painter is an important part of the coachworks (vehicle repair) industry. The name and reputation of a panel shop depends on the quality of its workmanship. Today it is very expensive to repair modern cars, so the work must be done right the first time, every time. A person who wants to work to reach the highest standards of spray painting will always be in demand and can earn a very good salary
