In South Africa, Speech Language Therapists must complete a four year honours degree in order to qualify as practicing clinicians. Upon graduating, therapists must complete a single year of community service in a government hospital. Once this year is complete, therapists must register as independent practitioners with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA )before they can begin offering services.
