Special Education teachers observe each learner, in order to understand his or her physiological, psychological and special requirements.
Special teaching techniques and curricula are then selected and applied in order to meet each learner's needs. Suitable materials and equipment are selected or developed for each pupil. Special Education Teachers have to also interpret and report on the behaviour and progress of each learner.
They usually work closely with the parents, to support them as well as they can, and to help them do the best thing for the child. They must have knowledge of special teaching skills and know about organisations that can suport them in improving their education on an ongoing basis.
