Do you have good observatgion skills, are you a good listener, mature and caring? Do you have a knowledge of human behaviour and are you sensitive, compassionate and patient.
Becoming a Sexual Abuse Counsellor involves working with people who have experienced sexual abuse, who have been raped or abused by people they know and those they do not.
Clients need to be persuaded gently to talk about their experiences and it is necessary for the Counsellor to be able to understand and acknowledge their emotional state and to be able to guide them through a healing process. It is important that Consellors are able to support their clients in making decisions.
In order to stay up to date with processes and information, Counsellors will need to do research and attend extra courses from time to time.
