Robotics Technician
Robotics technicians’ assists robotics engineers in tasks relating to the design, development, production, testing, operation, repair and maintenance of robots and robotic devices. Robots perform tasks ordinarily performed by humans. Robots are valued for their versatility and flexibility. The instructions that control their operations can be modified, so the tasks they perform can change as needed.
Robots and robotic devices are used in a wide variety of industrial settings. In the automotive industry robots are used for welding and painting in the textile industry for cutting cloth and tending machines, and in the computer industry for precise assembly work. Robots reduce production costs by removing the need for many of the workers who would otherwise be required for the production tasks, Robots can also be used in settings where it would be dangerous, uncomfortable and even impossible for humans to work.
What they do:
Before installing new equipment, they review the work order and instructional information. They also verify that the intended site within the factory is correctly supplied with the necessary electrical wires, switches and circuit breakers. After making sure that all the necessary equipment is available and in working condition technicians programme the robot for the specified task, using their knowledge of the programming language of the robot concerned. Robotics technicians are also called upon to test faulty components and replace parts on installed robots or robotic devices. They train employees in how to operate robots, robotic devices and related equipment.
