Road Safety Engineer
Road safety engineers are responsible for designing, planning and supervising the building and repairing of roads, highways, parking area, pavements, traffic islands, tunnels, freight terminals and any other traffic-related structures.
Duties:
· examining sites where work needs to be carried out , monitoring and evaluating traffic and pedestrian flow, checking the reliability of roads and lanes and how often roads and pavements are being used
· write reports recommending improvements on roads
· responsible for drawing up planes for new structures, getting the plans approved by authorities and preparing cost estimates for construction
· select contractors to construct the new structure, oversee the work being done and ensure that building and safety regulations are met
· may get involved with ordering building materials required for projects
· may be involved in studying of road user behaviour, partaking in crash reduction studies and doing research on new techniques for use in road safety
