Restaurant Host/ Hostess
Do you think that you might be interested in the restaurant business? Do you enjoy working with and helping people? Are you great at making first impressions? Then you may enjoy a job as a Host or Hostess.
As a host/hostess you will:
- Greet guests and seat them at their tables
- Provide guests with menus
- Ensure cleanliness the of the seating areas
- Make dining reservations
- Ensure the satisfaction of guests
- Direct customers to waiting areas
- Operate the till for payment.
Hosts/Hostesses have great communication, customer service and active listening skills. As a host/hostess you must be willing to stand for long periods of time and to deal with unhappy customers. On the other hand, it can be a very dynamic and exciting job as it is fast paced and everyday will bring something new. For this job you must know how to use a cash register and have previous experience with customer service. You may also need a high school diploma however most of your training will be on the job so vocational training will likely be unnecessary.
