Mining assistants work both underground in the mines and on the surface.
A Mining Assistant will be responsible for the erecting and dismanteling of construction scaffolding on the mines as well as assisting with the laying of cabling, pipes and bricks.
They also transport materials to and from the mine, load and unload crates, and collect waste materials.
Mining assistants may be responsible for maintaining the mine's premises and gardens. Under the supervision of trained operators, mining assistants may also dispatch, install and maintain electrical and mechanical machinery.
A career as a mining assistant offers steady employment with good benefits, such as housing provided. However, it involves working in a possibly dangerous, underground environment.
