Make-Up Artist
Make-up artists apply cosmetics, powder, paint or grease paint to the faces of all actors before they appear on stage or in front of the camera. They also conduct research on design, creation of character, period make-up and hairstyles for studio dramas, live theatre and film shots.
Tasks:
- They consider the shape of the face, bone structure, form of the eyes and the complexion before applying make-up.
- Use aids to create special effects, such as tinting and bleaching the hair or creating and applying beards, moustaches and wigs.
- Use colouring materials, padding and prosthetic pieces to simulate wounds, cuts, scars and bruises, or to create monstrous faces and other body parts.
- Touch up the actors’ make-up during productions.
Experienced make-up artists who are qualified hairdressers are very much in demand in the freelance theatre world.
