Logistics Buyer
Logistics is the detailed co-ordination of a large and complex operation. Logistics buyers are responsible for developing and implementing buying plans for selected products from suppliers for the company they work for. These plans eg. Include buying a suppliers’ range that will meet the customers’ needs. Through managing the pricing plan for the product, they ensure that the product is resold to the customer at a profit.
Other responsibilities include:
· Negotiating with the suppliers to ensure that the product is purchased at the best price and within the company’s budget, making delivery arrangements for the products bought form the suppliers and signing agreements with suppliers for future business.
· They will also manage the de-listing of suppliers who do not deliver adequately and the listing of new suppliers they have found.
· Monitoring product and supplier performance against the company’s technical, legal and safety requirements.
· Responsible for the training of new staff in their departments.
They continually seek opportunities for sourcing new products and work closely with suppliers to ensure they keep costs as low as possible and find was to improve the processes in the supply chain. Logistics buyers are often assisted by assistant buyers and logistics co-ordinators.
