Interior decorators design, plan and furnish the interiors of public and private buildings.
Tasks include:
- They need to take into consideration what the area is to be used for, as well as the budget and the taste of the client.
- They then sketch the plans for the client’s approval, modifying them as necessary. After obtaining the client’s approval, they buy the furnishings and supervise the work.
Other tasks:
- Decorators in shops advise buyers and executives on style and colour trends in interior furnishings.
- Some interior decorators also design furniture to be used in various settings.

Department stores, interior decorating firms, architectural firms, large companies, SABC Television Services, provincial Performing Arts Councils, freelancing and self-employment (in own studios)
