Industrial Psychologists main function is the study of workplace behaviour. They often apply research findings to increase workplace productivity, the selection of the best employees suitable for a particular job and for product testing.
Psychologists in general require an above-average intelligence. They should be creative thinkers who are capable of analysing human behaviour, and help with problem solving. They will need to have an Interest in people, caring and sensitivity together with other personality traits such as patience, dedication, reliability and the ability to work with people in any kind of situation are important.
A psychologist should be a mature, balanced person who can establish meaningful relationships with others and be capable of accepting people from all levels in society. Psychologists should be flexible and well adjusted. Responsibility and integrity are of the utmost importance.
As an Industrial Psychologist you would work in business in a Human Resources department dealting with worker productivity, employee training and assessment, and the general human resources requirements. You could also work in research or lecturing positions.
Some Industrial Psychologists will work for themselves and consult to Businesses when necessary.
