Greeting Card Illustrator
Greeting card illustrators produce illustrations which are used on greeting cards. Illustrators are responsible for coming up with original ideas.
Greeting card illustrators can either
- produce illustrations to match a text for a specific type of card or
- a text can be written for a specific illustration
Within the greeting card industry, illustrators can work for large design companies, small in-house design studios or even be self-employed. They produce their own range of greeting cards which can either be hand made or commercially printed.
What they do:
- Illustrators come up with sketches and ideas which are discussed with the editor or other production team members.
- The editor or production team will then suggest changes which the illustrator will incorporate in developing the illustration.
Greeting card illustrators illustrate a variety of different subjects such as cartoons, landscapes, floral bouquets or holiday scenes as greeting cards can range from birthdays, get-well-soon, farewell to many other occasions. They also have a large target market to cater for such as well-wishes (friends, lovers, family members, mothers, fathers, grandparents and children).
