The job of a General Manager is to plan, organise, direct and control the daily work in a business or organisation.
When a business grows to a size where there are lots of people who work on managing [or running] the business then you need a General Manager. The General Manager [or GM] works for the Chief Executive Officer or Head of the business/organisation and he/she then has department managers working under him/her and they will have people working under them. The job of the GM is to make sure that everyone does their job properly so that the business runs well, that all the staff are happy that they then produce a good product or service daily.If there are problems then the GM will work out how to fix it.
