Furniture Designer
Furniture designers use aspects of industrial design to design furniture and similar products for use or sale in the industrial, commercial and retail sectors.
Tasks include:
- creating new concepts and designs and producing innovative and functional furniture with great aesthetic appeal
- Can also be involved in new production management. Furniture designers work closely with other fields of business, such as marketing, finance, sales outlets and furniture manufactures.
Designers need to be in constant contact with the client to ensure that the client’s requirements are fulfilled. If they work for a furniture manufacture, the designer will need to constantly come up with new concepts and designs or improve on existing ones.
A furniture designer in a consultancy business will be responsible for managing a project on behalf of the client, as well as overseeing the production of the accepted design.
A career as a furniture designer can either be permanent or on a freelance basis.
