Forensic Analyst (Chemistry)
Forensic analysts are responsible for the processing and reconstruction of crime scenes for chemistry related evidence. They render an advisory service in respect of decontamination of a site/ crime scene & disposal of chemicals/ equipment on a site/ crime scene. They also prepare and examine objects received for chemistry analysis (Fire, toxicological & drug related investigations). They document the outcome of the chemistry examination and present expert evidence in court. They conduct research in the field of chemistry related issues.
What are the minimum requirements to become a Forensic Analyst (Chemistry)?
Individuals must have a Bsc Degree/ National diploma or equivalent qualification majoring in chemistry.
Training:
Individuals undergo in-house training in drug analysis & clandestine laboratory.
Where can you be stationed?
Forensic Analyst (Chemistry) is stationed at Forensic Science Laboratories of the South African Police Service: Detective Services.
