Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic
Earthmoving equipment mechanics maintain and repair all aspect of earthmoving machines form the hydraulic systems and power shift transmissions to electronic and electric systems.
Tasks:
- Need to be able to detect possible faults and flaws of equipment, as these heavy machines are used in the construction of dams, mines, pipelines, highways and airports.
- Repair and renew various fuel systems.
- When specific parts have to be manufactured, or adjustments are made to machines, it is up to the mechanic to design the part to be manufactured.
Their work also involves travelling at times, as earthmoving equipment is often on site, even in remote rural areas. Micrometers, tachometers and engine dynamometers as well as transmission dynamometers are used for this purpose.
