They make use of delivery trucks, vans, light trucks, motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles or delivery on foot.
They confirm deliveries and collections with the depot by two-way radios or cell phones.
They are required to check the daily goods consignment and sort the delivery notes in order of delivery. It then becomes their responsibility to ensure that the delivery vehicle is loaded with the goods as listed on their delivery schedule.
It is there responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is loaded in a safe way to ensure the safety of the driver as well as any assistant he might have working with the driver.
They must plan which route to take to deliver the goods in the most efficient way. On their delivery route they may have to stop to collect other goods.
For security reasons they must keep record of the deliveries and collections. They may receive payment on delivery of the goods or arrange for accounts to be settled.
Some large companies employ their own delivery person who focuses on delivering and collecting documents, goods and other items for the employees and clients of the company.
They are also required to run errands and perform other tasks when not delivering parcels and goods.
Another type of delivery person would be a food delivery person. They are employed by restaurants and fast food chains that offer a delivery service. Telephonic orders are taken, usually it will be entered into a computer, together wit the clients’ contact details, delivery address etc.
