They deal with customers and collectors and may run their own businesses. They also arrange packaging and delivery, and may advise on insurance claims.
Some dealers specialise in certain objects such as furniture, chine or ceramics and source items from overseas and import them. They need to be skilled in valuing and handling antiques that may be very old and brittle.
It is important that they know about past trends and styles in art, design and manufacturing, as well as about present buying trends and prices in antiques.
