Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT) or mortuary technician support pathologists during post-mortem examinations.
Duties would include:
Once the post-mortem is complete it would be the duty of the APT to assist with the reconstruction and cleaning of the body ready for storage or release to the undertakers for burial or cremation. It is possible once experience is gained to assist forensic pathologists examining murder victims.
Other than post-mortem work, you would be responsible for the day-to-day running of the mortuary service for example:
There is no formal training for a Anatomical Pathology Technologist as this training is carried out on the job and is gained through experience. It is however advised that to follow this career you will have a knowledge of science and a Matric with Science, Maths and English.
