Aircraft Mechanic
Aircraft maintenance mechanics work on the ground servicing and repairing parts of the aircraft that need attention. Some mechanics specialise in one section of the aircraft, such as the electrical system of a particular type of aircraft, but mostly they can work on any section of any aircraft. Specialists in this field may include: airplane electricians, pneumatic testers, pressure sealer-and-testers, aircraft body repairers and air conditioning mechanics.
What they do:
- Repair and adjust aircraft accessories and instruments, as well as electrical wiring systems.
- Service, repair and inspect hydraulic and pneumatic systems and handle various other servicing tasks.
- Assemble, repair and replace parts of the airframe
Mechanics who work for businesses that own their own aircraft usually handle all the necessary repair and maintenance work as these planes are generally small and the work less complex than in repair shops.
In small repair shops mechanics inspect and repair many different types of aircrafts. The airplanes may include small commuter planes run by aviation companies, private company planes and jets, private individually-owned aircraft and planes used for flying instruction.
