Air-brush artists use the air-brush to create original artworks or do restoration of damaged and faded photographs. In the past the air-brush was an important tool when used to restore photographs or add colour to a black and white pictures; and before large format printers, air-brush artists would paint the large pictures used in advertising on buildings and billboards.
Today a skilled air-brush artist will still be found working in the film and television industry as well as in theatres. There they use their talent to paint the sets and props used in productions. Another area where the air-brush artist is busy is in the customising or 'pimping' of motor vehicles (from private cars to motorbikes and trucks) with original designs. In the area of fine art the air-brush can be used to create paintings with photo-like realism and detail.
A computer based version of the air-brush tool is used extensively in the creation of computer animation, computer-generated backgrounds etc.
